2008 - 2009 Calendar of Events
Note: Required activities for RMCMA students are the studio recital, group lessons, and Federation of Music Clubs Festival. All other activities are not required, but students are encouraged to participate.
CFA Membership: Membership in the Colorado Flute Association provides discounted or free entry to events such as the ones described below, an annual newsletter full of Colorado-related flute information and networking opportunities for college bound musicians. Since I am a CFA member, membership in CFA through my studio is just $10. I am serving as membership coordinator for the CFA this year, so you may hand deliver your application and dues payment.

Wednesday, October 1st, 10:00am - MTNA Suburban Northwest Baroque Style periods lecture. Community in Christ Church; 12229 W. 8th Ave; Denver.
Friday, October 3rd, 7:00pm - Sweetspot Tune Session. 4th Ave; Loveland, CO
Tuesday, October 7th, 2:00pm - Inglenook at Brighton. The Inglenook care center in Brighton is hosting performances for residents. This is an excellent chance to practice performing in front of an appreciative audience before the studio recital or before a competition.
Tuesday, October 7th, 12:30pm - 2:00pm - Red Hat Ladies Luncheon Music Program. Todd Creek Country Club.
Wednesday, October 8th, 10:00am - DMTNA Fall Course. Wells Music.
Tuesday, October 14th, 7:30pm - Euterpean Society Concert. Students are invited to perform at meetings of the Brighton Euterpean Society.
* Thursday, October 16th, 7:00pm - 8:00pm - Flute Group Lessons. Group lessons will be held every third Thursday of the month in the concert hall at RMCMA.
Wednesday, October 22nd, 10:00am - DMTNA Fall Course. Wells Music.
Saturday, October 25th, Time TBA - RMCMA Spook-a-thon. RMCMA main concert hall. This is a fundraising event for the RMCMA. Students sign-up to play a solo or ensemble piece and collect “sponsorship” money for their performance. (usually $5 per sponsor). The money goes to RMCMA’s operating budget for the year. See me for sign-up sheets.
November 2008
Sunday, Nov. 9th 10-12am and 2-5pm - Colorado Flute Association Presents Patricia George’s Flute Spa. You may read Patricia George’s excellent column in Flute Talk Magazine. She writes a monthly column for Flute Talk. Now’s your chance to meet her in person and engage in an interactive, fast paced day of flute exercises and performances. Excellent for middle-school age through adult. Participants do not need to be members of the CFA, but there is a discount for members.
Sunday, Nov. 9th 12:00-2:00pm - Colorado Flute Association Fall Student Competition. Students will perform one required piece and one piece of your choice (entry form and requirements available for download from www.coloradofluteassociation.org) for a panel of judges. Students will be assigned a competition time. Please check-in fifteen minutes early, students may leave after their performance. Students must be members of the Colorado Flute Association.

January 2009
Saturday, January 31st, 9:00am - 5:00pm, SAC (Suzuki Association of Colorado)Winter Workshop with Alice Joy Lewis. Student masterclasses, parent and teacher workshops. Welshire Presbyterian Church; 2999 S. Colorado Blvd; Denver, CO.
February 2009
* Saturday, February 28th - Federation of Music Clubs Spring Festival. The North Denver Metro federation of music clubs chapter will hold its annual festival at the Maranatha Christian Center in Denver. Students may enter the flute solo event and perform two solos for a judge, one required piece from memory, one a piece of the student’s choice. Students may also enter a sight-reading event or theory event. Though this is a spring event, please let me know right away if you are interested so that we can begin preparation.
March 2009
Saturday, March 14th - Colorado Flute Association Spring Flute Festival. This all day event will feature vendor booths, masterclass and recital by Tadeu Coehlo, flute choir reading sessions, Dalcroze and Alexander classes and much, much, more.
April 2009
Saturday, April 5th - State Federation of Music Clubs Festival. All-Day event at South Suburban Church. All students who received a superior at regional festival (Feb. 28) are invited to compete for top performer in solo and ensemble events.
